Scholarships available from LWML SWD
LWML South Wisconsin District offers two types of scholarships: TLC and Female Church Work. Deadlines and directions for the scholarships are found in the Scholarship Applications.
TLC Scholarship
The Love of Christ Scholarship Fund (TLC) has provided financial assistance to women of the South Wisconsin District since 1998.
The TLC provides financial assistance to:
1. South Wisconsin District Events: Fall Retreat, Winter Getaway, District Convention
2. Lutheran Women in Mission (LWML) Convention (See application for criteria)
3. Deaconess Scholarship (post-graduate)
Any woman who is a communicant member of an SWD LCMS congregation may apply for a TLC Scholarship. Criteria and deadlines for TLC Scholarships are found on the applications.
TLC Scholarship Resources
TLC Scholarship Application
This form is used to apply for TLC scholarship assistance to attend LWML South Wisconsin District events such as retreats, conventions, and gatherings. It helps make participation accessible by providing financial support to women seeking to grow in faith, fellowship, and service.
TLC Omaha LWML Convention Scholarship
This application allows eligible LWML South Wisconsin District leaders and former Young Women Representatives to request financial assistance to attend the national LWML Convention in Omaha. The scholarship helps cover early registration and the convention meal plan, encouraging continued leadership and service within LWML.
LWML SWD Deaconess Candidate Scholarship
This application provides details and requirements for women of the South Wisconsin District pursuing post-graduate deaconess studies at an LCMS-recognized institution. The scholarship supports candidates preparing for professional church work, with consideration given to aptitude and financial need.
Female Church Work Scholarship
Female Church Work Scholarship for 2026-2027
Active female members of congregations of the South Wisconsin District (SWD) of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LC-MS) who are residents of the SWD prior to college and are preparing for full-time* church work in the LC-MS are eligible to apply. The applicant must be an undergraduate student at one of the educational institutions of the Synod during the school year in which you would receive this scholarship. Scholarship applicants, when mailing your application to our SWD Scholarship Chairman, please allow adequate mail time in order to meet the postmark deadline of April 30. Due to the USPS mail processing changes, postmarks may or may not reflect the date in which your application was mailed. To ensure that your application arrives before the deadline, please allow for mailing time of 10-14 days or personally stop at the post office and have it manually postmarked at the service desk. Applications must be postmarked by April 30th, 2026 to apply for funds for the 2026-2027 school year. *Full-time service in the church is defined as any position available through the Board of Assignments of the Synod.

Marissa Boris
Divine Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hartland, WI
Marissa will be a senior this year attending Concordia University, St. Paul in Minnesota. Marissa is a Lutheran elementary education major and is following in the footsteps of both her parents who have served as examples in the classroom and in life. Marissa shares that working and carrying a full course load has taught her to make careful and thoughtful choices. While student teaching she looks forward to being able to communicate Biblical truths that have supported her. She is excited to let the Lord lead her to go and reach whoever He places in her path.

Heidi Hahn
Divine Redeemer Lutheran Church, Hartland, WI
Heidi was led by the Holy Spirit to change course and program direction while attending Concordia University Wisconsin these last four years. Heidi will be a 5th year senior and has worked very hard during summer classes and an extra course load to complete the additional course work to graduate in December 2025 as a Lutheran elementary school teacher. She will be student teaching during the Fall of 2025 and is excited to accept a Call to teach in a Lutheran school. As Heidi states: “the Lord is calling and I must follow”.

Lauren Humphrey
Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Sun Prairie, WI
Lauren will be a senior this year attending Concordia University Wisconsin. She is in the Director of Church Ministry/Pre-Deaconess program. Lauren has a deep passion for service and demonstrates that commitment in her involvement in both on and off campus ministries. She will serve as the LCMS Youth Ministry Intern in St. Louis during the summer of 2025 at the LCMS International Center and also as a reporter at the LCMS Youth Gathering in July. In addition, Lauren will attend the LWML Convention in Omaha as a YWR and is excited to include that experience as preparation for her congregational ministry opportunities in the future.

Reagan Makela
Trinity Lutheran Church, Sheboygan, WI
Reagan will be a freshman this Fall at Concordia University Wisconsin with the intention of majoring in Lutheran elementary education with a Special Education major as well. Reagan credits her parents, her pastors and teachers as examples of a faith-filled and focused life when making choices and when experiencing very difficult life situations. Showing compassion, patience and perseverance are the lessons she has learned and the gifts she hopes to bring to the children and families she will serve as a Lutheran school teacher, especially special education.

Lillian Niermann
Trinity Lutheran Church, Racine, WI
Lillian will be a sophomore at Concordia University Wisconsin this fall majoring in Early Childhood Education. Lillian is following in the footsteps of her parents who serve in Lutheran schools and congregations. As the oldest child she has learned leadership skills that will serve her well in the classroom. She is involved in several campus activities that require teamwork and focused service. While at Concordia her classroom clinicals have cemented her desire to teach and she looks forward to working with students, families and fellow educators in a Lutheran school setting.

Peyton Roethel
Trinity Lutheran Church, Sheboygan WI
Peyton will be a sophomore attending Concordia University Wisconsin this fall with majors in early childhood and special education. Being around young children and involvement with those with special needs has filled her with pure joy and fulfillment. She feels strongly the call to share the love of Jesus because God has blessed her with patience and understanding. Babysitting, tutoring, respite care and camping with people with disabilities has confirmed her desire to serve as a special education teacher in a Lutheran school setting.

Nina Seeger
St. John Lutheran Church, Edgerton, WI
Nina will be a senior at Concordia University Wisconsin this fall with a major in the Director of Church Ministry program. Nina has been active in church leadership activities since high school, organizing mission trips for high school students both locally in Wisconsin and in other areas of the country where needs existed for service and outreach with the Gospel. She is interested in congregational ministry, Christian counseling and working in a youth group home. Her courage, diligence and passion for loving God and serving others will help her keep a steadfast focus on His plan for her life and the joy found only in Christ.

Hailey Whittow
Brookfield Lutheran Church, Brookfield, WI
Hailey will be a sophomore attending Concordia University Wisconsin this fall with a major in Business Education K-12 and minors in Theology and Math Education. She has pursued opportunities to observe, participate and lead various classroom and congregational activities to support her learning of teaching strategies and student engagement. Outside of the classroom her campus activities include the Falcons soccer team, the pep band and working on campus jobs. All these experiences have taught her to place a greater trust in God and His lead as she navigates college life and her education rooted in His Word.
